So, I know this is a field notes, but I can’t not talk about Matty Healy in Malaysia (If you don’t know whats happened, read up here, here, here). I’ve seen so many yt people feel the need to defend him. Namely this girl, and I can’t tell if she’s joking??? Powerful people definitely need to be maker of change, but how is Matty Healy’s drunk rant/ kiss going to do that? It’s hard for me to not get angry listening to her talk, particularly as she says she works in the ‘social impact space’. As usual the internet is the worst and the best place, the best because a couple of years ago the thoughts and feelings of Malaysian queers wouldn’t have been voiced. The worst, because yt people are still telling us what to feel. Again, it is hard for me to write this and not get riled up because of how entitled some of these creators feel talking not about their experience, but someone else’s lived experience.
